Monti, Trastevere’s cooler brother

You still get the draped ivy, quaint 15th century apartments with shuttered lids and cobbled streets of Trastevere. But here, you also get a bespoke cultural hub of music, vintage clothing and beatnik bars. This is old Rome meets new at its best. And it’s not a tourist trap. Yet. Get of the metro blue line at ‘Cavour’ just south of Termini station and 5 minutes from the Colosseum.  I heard of this area from my previous Italian roommates, a group of mustached Beatles-crazy music and film aficionados who hung out there every weekend. Many who go there are alternative hipsters who ironically pay nice amounts for their shabby-chic style. I literally can’t keep up with the amount of impressive bars, vintage shops and eateries that are popping up, each looking like they came from design heaven.
