The ‘other’ Basilica of Rome, San Paolo

Check out why San Paolo is set to be the new hang out haven in the ‘UI Areas of Rome’ page.

This mammoth grew from a once humble tomb of Saint Paul who was beheaded by the Emporer Nero here. Wander into St Paul’s Basilica on Via Ostiense minutes from the metro blue line stop ‘Basilica San Paolo’. It’s the second biggest basilica after St Peter’s at the Vatican but is often missed by many tourists as its south of the centre.  The Pope performs mass there at certain times of the year. When I lived in the area I used to wander in the cool apses lined with imposing majestic columns and was often greeted by an impromptu choir performance or small groups of believers in garbs of all colours and sizes.
